During the winter months there are times of severe weather hazards, poor visibility conditions, drifting snow and/or ice accumulation when travel on the Township of Southgate roadways is unsafe. The Township of Southgate will declare a Significant Weather Event when the roads are unsafe and/or impassable with the potential to pose a significant danger to users of the roadway in the area. Be advised that when a Significant Weather declaration has been made it can last for multiple days and will remain in effect until lifted by the Public Works Manager. During a significant weather event, the Township will plow the roadways in the morning to achieve maintenance standards if possible, but does not mean the event has been lifted. When it is unsafe for plow operators to drive the roads and/or when the roadways can not be cleared to keep up with the drifting, snow accumulation or icing conditions, the plows will be pulled off the roadways until the storm event ceases to allow for the plows to open the roads the next day.
Please see below for current Significant Weather Event Declarations.
