The Township of Southgate by-laws are in place and enforced in order to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all residents. We are available as a resource to achieve compliance through by-laws and providing education, conducting inspections and issuing warnings or tickets when necessary.
The By-law Enforcement Department is responsible for the investigation and enforcement of a number of Municipal By-laws.

Submitting a By-Law Complaint |
- All complaints must be received in writing before they will be acted on; anonymous complaints may not be investigated, unless the alleged complaint relates to an immediate life safety issue.
- Forms of writing that are accepted include completing our complaint form, a written letter or email with name and contact information included.
- Your information is held in confidence pursuant to the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act –MFIPPA.
- Once an investigation is launched a status update is not generally provided to the complaint originator.

Complaint Process |
- The complaint is received in writing
- A site visit is conducted
- A formal order to comply is given to the offender stating the date of compliance. Failure to comply gives authority to the Municipality to authorize clean up and charge back fees as real taxes.
- An offender who wishes to appeal the decision may do so to the Property Standards Committee in writing by registered mail to the township clerk.
